Melinda Thorsnes has long been one of my favorite contemporary Northwest artists, so it is a genuine please to host a mid-career retrospective of her beautiful, brightly colored paintings.  Her primary teacher at the Museum Art School (now PNCA) was her thesis advisor George Johanson, and she graduated in 1971, setting the stage for a remarkable 4 decades long painting career.  Thorsnes continues to be highly regarded for her skillful use of rich, deeply saturated color in narrative, figural work which continues the traditions of American genre painting.  Often working from old family photographs, her work offers humor and insight while commenting imaginatively on family and other aspects of American culture. Do come and see!
