PHYLLIS TROWBRIDGE
The Northwest paintings of Phyllis Trowbridge depict the sights, sounds, and visceral experience of the outdoors. Her imagery reflects nature’s light and atmosphere and the transitory character of its changing moods and weather. Trowbridge spends most of her time painting plein air, often returning to the same location again. During her process she observes and interprets the elements within her compositions, intuitively and aesthetically. There is an immediacy to the work created from painting what she sees while choosing to present it in her own unique way. Here, Trowbridge pushes beyond the predictable into new ideas and perceptions to create fresh interpretations that express the beauty in nature. We are pleased to present this second exhibition of her work with the gallery. Phyllis Trowbridge received her MFA in Painting, from the American University in Washington, DC in 1990 and a BA in studio from the Hamilton College in Clinton, NY.
